Top 7 Spring 2012 Trends
SimoneFebruary 24, 2012
Spring is upon us!!!
FINALLY!! The weather is gradually warming up and that means its time to remove SEVERAL layers of clothing, retire our winter coats, scarves and gloves and bring out our sandals, shorts and sunscreen.
Most retailers have begun shuffling their store around to make room for the NEW Spring clothing and if you are anything like me, you’ve already noticed what the trends are. Today I’ve made a list of a few of my favorites.
Let’s get down to business.
1. Color Blocking
The color blocking trend has been around since 2011 and is one of the easiest to pull off because it’s very literal. You cannot mess it up. Your outfit literally consists of 2 or more colors at one time. “Blocked” by where they are placed on your body or on the garment.
2. Red Lips
Every diva should own red lipstick. It’s the epitome of effortless glamour and sophistication. The trick is finding the perfect shade for your skin tone. My personal favorite is MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick.
3. Floral Prints and Polka Dots
A lot people shy away from prints such as these because they aren’t quite sure how to style them. A floral or polka print dress/shirt/bottom should be the focal point of your look. Everything else should compliment not overpower or overshadow that particular piece.
Ponytails are like the Red Lip. You can never go wrong with it. Whether its messy, sleek or to the side with a fishtail braid. Ponytails are a great way to keep your hair out of your face all year round but even more so when in warmer weather.
5. Ankle Strap and Metallic Heels
Ankle strap heels add a bit of feminine sexiness to your ensemble. While metallic heels dress up any and everything in your wardrobe.
6. Cat Eye Sunglasses
This retro style frame made a comeback in 2011, thanks to celebs like Kourtney Kardashian, Rihanna and Nicole Richie. These would look smashing w/the polka dot trend I mentioned earlier.
It gets no better to BRIGHT retina burning neon colors. They take me back to the early 90s when the original cast of 90210 was all the rage. Out of all the trends for this season, THIS one might be the hardest to pull off. It is not for the faint at heart!! Neon colored jewels, lipsticks/glosses/nails or shoes are my favorite way to wear this trend! Adding something neon to an all black/white outfit would be smashing! Very unexpected.
I would like to say like anything else in fashion..trends are subjective. Everything isn’t for everyone. You have to find what works for your lifestyle + budget. Buying an entirely new wardrobe is not feasible for most people. The easiest way to partake in any trend is to 1, incorporate one or two pieces into your existing wardrobe; 2, rock the trend as an accessory; 3, add the ‘hot’ shade or color of the season into a makeup/nail look. Possibilities are really endless! Just use your imagination.
