Style Basics: Statement Jewelry
SimoneNovember 30, 2011
The Holidays are officially upon us!! Great food + great times with the ones we love is what the season should be all about!! With the Holidays come holiday parties. Whether it be the annual Christmas party at work or a night on the town with your friends to celebrate New Year’s Eve, this is one of the few times a year people like to pull out all the stops with their fashion! A simple and cost effective way to turn a “boring” outfit into something festive would be to add a piece of statement jewelry.
Bold. Gaudy. Sparkly…are all things that come to mind when I think of statement jewelry. Whether its something sleek like a chunky bracelet or cuff style necklace or an intricate piece made of bright colors and rhinestones, you want a piece that’s a conversation starter! Something that makes people say “Where did you get that?!!”
Here’s a few examples:
You can find statement jewelry just about anyplace. Thrift stores are a great place if you are looking for something vintage or estate inspired. Retailers like Forever21, Target, Claire’s and Icing carry a wide variety of inexpensive pieces. High End brands such as Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow; Kim Kardashian’s Belle Noel and the infamous CC SKYE are known for their eye catching baubles!
My personal preference would be chunky jewelry like these pieces by LoveChiChi.
I’ve been hunting for pieces like this for a while and every place I found- wouldn’t have any of the items I wanted in stock. I’d almost given up when I found LoveChiChi on Etsy. The pictures above are the two items I’ve added to my collection. The Miss Maggie Necklace , $30, and The Miss Siri Bracelet, $21. They were shipped from Australia very securely in a padded envelope. The jewelry itself was placed in lovely black organza bags that I kept to store them in when I’m not wearing them. Let me tell you… they are better looking in person than they are in the pictures.
They have weight but aren’t heavy. You can wear them at work and not feel weighed down at all!! I absolutely love them because they are so versatile. You can wear them with just about anything!( For example: As I’m writing this I have on the Siri Bracelet with a navy long sleeve top and slacks. Gold and Silver rings and a Rose Gold watch. Gold Hoop earrings.) The quality is outstanding! I haven’t taken off the bracelet since I received it. I love it that much. The combination of gold and silver metals is very on trend right now.
The Miss Maggie Necklace mixes 2 different types of chains which add a bit of texture to the piece. The shorter chain (the one closest to your neck) has etched detailing while the longer chain has a brushed typed finish. Both chains are grouped together with thick faux leather strands that can be slightly adjusted for a longer or shorter length piece. Very very pretty and unique.
Here are a few more LoveChiChi pieces.
With statement jewelry I would suggest quality over quantity. Look for things that you can wear to any event at anytime and that works well with other things in your jewelry box. Wear them with your fave LBD, cocktail dress, tailored suit or blazer w/a simple white tee and jeans. To church, brunch on a date, to the club….the possibilities are endless. With the proper care, these pieces can last for a long time. (Here is a tip for you: To avoid that green line on your neck/finger/wrist, try sealing your jewels in Kryolan sealant. It works a lot better than clear nail polish.)
