Say What: Did R Kelly Hire A Impersonator To Perform In His Place?! [Details]

R. Kelly fans don’t believe he bothered showing up for a performance in Louisiana over the weekend.
Fans believe they waited until 1 a.m. on Saturday for what turned out to be an impersonator performing at Louisiana’s Monroe Civic Centre. A man who appeared to be the singer took to the stage three hours after the show’s advertised time and was booed off not long after he begun his four-minute performance.
Eyewitnesses quickly noticed that the man was not the original, with some reports from the gig claiming that the man on stage lip-syncing may have been a tribute act named R Jelly. One fan claimed she saw the look-a-like at a local restaurant earlier that day.
“The advertisement online through Ticketmaster said that it was a Ced’s All Black Affair and R Kelly performing live, which did not happen last night,” the woman told KNOE News. “We were scammed because 10 o’clock we were there; no R Kelly. Eleven o’clock; no R Kelly. Twelve o’clock; no R Kelly. 12:45; no R Kelly. 1am, here comes an impersonator.”
Some concertgoers allegedly paid up to $150 for what they thought was going to be a full performance. Event promoter Cedric Johnson was left to deal with the backlash from the crowd.
“I’m so sorry. I got Dooped,” Johnson texted to local TV news station KNOE News. “I will be refunding half of your Money Back … A statement will be given on today as to what actually [sic] happened at the party.”
While a full statement has yet to be given from the promoter about the bogus show, a representative for R Kelly yesterday told Pitchfork.com that the singer had appeared at the venue. But also stated that this event was billed as an “appearance” rather than a full concert.
Kelly’s new album Black Panties is scheduled for release in December. He performed a show on Sunday in Mississippi, the day after the event in Louisiana and posted on Instagram: “Great show last night in Southaven, MS. Thanks to all who came down, the energy in the crowd was crazy.”
