The San Francisco 49ers suffered a heartbreaking loss on Sunday when the NFL team loss in overtime to the New York Giants in the 2012 NFC Championship Game.

The key turning point came in overtime when kick returner Kyle Williams was stripped of the ball on a return by the Giants’ Jacquian Williams. The Giants recovered the ball at the 24-yard line and eventually kicked a winning field goal. Needless to say, Williams became the scapegoat in San Francisco.

Williams, 23, quickly trended on Twitter. Some 49er fans gave their support but some took it a little far with death threats. One fan tweeted that he hopes Williams and his family dies.

Another wished Williams died in his sleep Sunday night. And when another tweeted that he’s not sure Williams deserves to be receiving death threats, someone said that notion was “debatable.”
