Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya will not be at the fight cheering on his client on Saturday.

The former 10-time world title winner has voluntarily returned to rehab to address his substance abuse issues. De La Hoya announced in a statement on Tuesday that he would miss the mega fight that Golden Boy is promoting between undefeated junior middleweight title holders Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the MGM Grand.

“Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend,” De La Hoya  said in the statement. “His is the ring and mine in treatment. I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility.”

De La Hoya added, I explained this to Canelo and he understood that my health and long-term recovery from my disease must come first. Thank you for your understanding. I ask for your support and privacy during this difficult time for me and my family.”

Its unclear what De La Hoya is seeking treatment for but he has admitted in the past that he was addicted to alcohol. He also said he has abused cocaine in the past. He also checked himself into rehab in May 2011. De La Hoya, who won a 1992 Olympic gold medal, retired in 2008.

De La Hoya Los Angeles Times columnist Bill Dwyre in an interview that he attended recovery meetings six times a week, sometimes twice a day.

“The fight life, that was easy,” De La Hoya said. “This is a battle I have every day. There I was, the Golden Boy … and all the time, I felt like crap. … I’m a nice guy, but I did bad things, made bad decisions. I can’t go back.”

This news comes a day after Mayweather bashed the De La Hoya for being jealous.

Mayweather told the Los Angeles Times last month that he wasn’t intimidated by the idea that De La Hoya had helped Alvarez prepare for Saturday’s fight.

“I feel like Oscar couldn’t beat the king so he wants to see someone else beat the king,” Mayweather Jr. said. “It’s chess. … I can knock them all off the board. I’m amazing like that.”

Mayweather added, “Oscar’s just jealous of me. He don’t have money like me. He’s not flyer than me. Oscar … likes to run around with this Golden Boy image, which we know really is [false]. He’s always been jealous of me. I’m the total package.”
