San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick received plenty of backlash for what he was wearing last week.

Kaepernick was criticized for wearing a Miami Dolphins hat. This week, he’s in the news again but this time for not wearing anything at all. Kaepernick posed nude for ESPN the Magazine‘s annual “Body Issue.” Kaepernick is on one of the covers of the fifth annual issue, which is slated to hit newsstands July 12.

The magazine featured eight different covers this year, and Kaepernick was one of the eight athletes asked to pose for a cover shot.

“I don’t want to be the standard image,” Kaepernick told ESPN the Magazine. “I don’t want to be that perfect mold of, ‘This is what every quarterback before you looked like, this is what you’re supposed to look like.”

Kaepernick added, “One of the biggest things when I first started  playing was, ‘Oh, you have tattoos, you  don’t dress the same as most quarterbacks do.’ To me, as long as I go out and  play well, it shouldn’t be a problem of how I dress, or whether I have tattoos  or not, or whether I wear a snapback or beanie. That’s just who I am.”
