NBA Trade: Lamar Odom Says Reality Show May Have Rubbed People the Wrong Way

Johnnie WaltersDecember 9, 2011

Lamar Odom was got off guard when he was nearly traded to the New Orleans Hornets.

Odom, who has spent eight years as a Los Angeles Laker, was so disgusted he held back tears while on the phone with radio personality Stephen A. Smith during an interview Thursday concerning the trade.

“You got to let it happen first,” Odom told Smith about the trade. “If it does happen I would think I wouldn’t be treated like a number. I thought I was going to be here (Los Angeles) the rest of my life. I thought I was going to get a call, I don’t know.”

Odom, even thought his decision to do E!’s “Khloe and Lamar” reality show had something to do with the trade.

“Maybe I rubbed people the wrong way with doing the show,” Odom said. “When things come up you start to wonder and second guess, I don’t know.”

But that interview was before the news came that the trade was vetoed by NBA commissioner David Stern. The Lakers agreed to trade Odom to the Hornets as part of a deal for point guard Chris Paul.

But Odom wasn’t the only one getting the axe. Pau Gasol was also a part of the trade. Gasol was going to the Houston Rockets while Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic and draft picks to the Hornets.

But Stern nixed the deal after allegedly coming under pressure from small market owners who complained about unfair trading from bigger market teams. This was the biggest argument from owners during the lockout that lasted five months. Some owners believe the bigger market teams have an unfair advantage.

No one knows what will happen next. But there’s no denying it will definitely be an awkward situation at the Hornets and Lakers’ practices.

“Maybe I’ll see you there tomorrow [at practice],” Odom told the L.A. Times. “But I doubt it. You don’t want to go to no place you’re not wanted. I’ll try to give them what they want as much as possible. Man, I’m just in total disbelief about all of this. They don’t want my services, for whatever reason. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I was proud to be a Laker, so I’ll try to help them in the process as much as possible.”

Odom went to his Twitter to voice his opinion. He even gave a few hecklers a piece of his mind. Odom tweeted:

RealLamarOdom, “Wow! Talk 2 me people. I couldn’t even get the phone call.”

Vladie831 tweeted, “Lamar Odom got all emotional wtf, listening to too much Drake fam, Listen to some Onyx, you’re representing queens all wrong @reallamarodom”
