Mary J. Blige Father Stabbed By Ex-Girlfriend, Critically Injured [Details]

Mary J. Blige’s father is in critical condition after being stabbed by his ex-girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

Thomas Blige, 63, reportedly confronted the woman and accused her of slashing his tires. The two got into an argument and the 50-year old woman allegedly stabbed him three times at his apartment complex in Battle Creek, Mich.

According to USA Today, when police found Blige in his apartment, he had been stabbed three times, including one neck injury. He underwent surgery at Bronson Methodist Hospital.

Police went to the former girlfriend’s nearby apartment at the complex and found the woman in blood-spattered clothing. She was taken into custody without incident and treated at a Battle Creek hospital for a cut.

The woman was taken to the Calhoun County jail and was expected to be arraigned Friday in Calhoun County District Court.

This is not the first domestic dispute between the two. USA Today reports there have been seven incidents since August 2013, which includes the 50-year old woman being charged with aggravated violence after she hit Blige in the head with a glass candlestick.

The woman entered a no-contest plea to the charge on Jan. 10 was placed on six months probation. She was ordered to have “non-assaultive” contact with Blige.

Mary has previously described her father as a jazz musician and Vietnam War veteran who suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome. According to, Thomas abused her mother. “He left us when I was 4, but he’d come back from time to time and abuse her some more,” she said.
