Lady Gaga is the latest celeb under fire about her charity’s finances.

It has been reported that Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation donated a mere $5,000 of its $2.1 million in assets.

Showbiz411.com published a breakdown of the foundation’s 2012 tax report. It names Stefani Germanotta (a.k.a Lady Gaga) as its director, her mother Cynthia as its president and her father Joseph as its treasure. It claimed a total revenue of $2.66 million, $1.85 million of which went to operational expenses.

Check out the breakdown of the 501(c)(3) organization’s expenses via Showbiz411.com below:

$300,000 in strategic consulting

$62,836 on stage productions

$50,000 on social media

$50,000 on event coordination

$406,552 on legal

$150,000 on philanthropic consulting

$60,000 on research

$58,768 on publicity fees

$78,000 on travel

$72,000 on salaries

$808,661 on “other”

$5,000 on grants to organizations or individuals

In an article published in the Huffington Post, Lady Gaga’s mother didn’t refute the math. She simply pointed out a “misinterpretation” of the purpose of the foundation. She said the Born This Way Foundation was never meant to be an organization that doled out money to charities. She claims their events and services have a direct effect on their core goal of “empowering youth.”

“There is quite a bit of inaccurate information out there right now that misinterprets the essential mission and critical work of a very special organization that was founded several years ago by Stefani Germanotta, whom you all know as Lady Gaga. First and foremost, we are an organization that conducts our charitable activity directly, and we fund our own work,” she wrote. “We are not a grant-maker that funds the work of other charities, and were never intended to be.”

The non-profit anti-bullying organization, per its mission statement aims to:

…foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated. The Foundation is dedicated to creating a safe community that helps connect young people with the skills and opportunities they need to build a kinder, braver world.

According to the charity’s records, none of the money spent in 2012 went to Gaga or her family. The form states “none of the directors and officers were compensated” for their work.

Lady Gaga and her family may not have misused the charity funds. But its damaging when $808,661 went to “other” expenses.
