Hair Therapy with Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is something we all have in our pantries.
We use it for many different reasons because it adds a certain richness to a dish without leaving it greasy. I have a little secret to tell you. It does the same things for your hair!! Let me explain.
EVOO can nourish, condition and improve the strength and elasticity of the hair. Its one of many natural oils that has the ability to penetrate the hair shaft, reaching the cortex, allowing the hair to look and feel conditioned and healthy. EVOO is very rich and moisturizing. It contains Vitamins E and A and helps heal a dry, flaky scalp aka dandruff.
There are many ways to incorporate EVOO into your hair routine. The most common would be as a Scalp Treatment, which basically is heating the oil, placing it directly on the scalp and massaging it in for 10-15 minutes. This can be done prior to shampooing or as an overnight deep conditioning treatment. Depending on how well you saturate your scalp and or hair, there will be drippage. I would suggest covering your head with some sort of plastic cap to avoid ruining your pillowcases or clothing if you choose to do this. Wash and condition your hair as you normally would.
Another great way to add this to your hair routine would be to mix 1-2 tablespoons into your favorite deep conditioner. This is my personal favorite. A little goes a long way with natural oils and I can honestly say with repeated use it does help repair damage to your hair. As always with any deep conditioner leave it in for at least 45 mins. Rinse and proceed with the rest of your hair routine.
Give this a try and let me know if you see any changes in your hair. In case you are wondering if there is a particular EVOO needed for this, there isn’t. Just whatever brand you can snag from your local grocery store!! With repeated use I’m sure you will see wonderful results.
