Get the Name Right: Beyonce and Jay-Z Welcome Baby Girl Blue Ivy Carter!

Celebrities like to do things a bit differently than normal people.

Take baby names, for instance. Some name their kids weird names. Celebrities seem to have more creative talent than they know what to do with when it comes to choosing distinctive names for their offspring. And Beyonce and Jay-Z are no different.

The couple welcomed a baby girl on Saturday and named her Blue Ivy Carter. Although, some media outlets reported her name was Ivy Blue Carter, those reports are false. We’re guessing reporters couldn’t believe the power couple would go with a color.

What makes it more unbelievable is the fact that quite a few people have named their gray pit bulls with blue eyes the name ‘Blue.’ But Bey and Jay didn’t think about that obviously. Its Jay’s favorite color.

The couple’s close friend Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed the baby’s arrival and name on Twitter, writing: ‘Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already.’ Seems fitting, Paltrow named her first child Apple.

News of the birth spread quickly amongst their friends with Rihanna tweeting “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.”

Russell Simmons also tweeted the new parents: “congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z.”

Beyonce had a scheduled C-section on Saturday at New York City’s Lennox Hospital. It has been the focus of media interest since the superstar checked in under the name Ingrid Jackson earlier that day. The couple reportedly rented out the hospital’s entire fourth floor for $1.3 million.

According to the New York Daily News, security guards patrolled the hospital area. Lennox Hill also blacked out its surveillance cameras and windows so that no photos will be leaked in preparation for her delivery, ABC News reports. All employees had to turn in cell phones when they arrived to their shifts. There is also an increase in security outside of the hospital (for any fans who are thinking about showing up).

The birth of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s first child comes less than a week after the most recent burst of rumors that she had given birth. Twitter was on fire after rumors spread that Beyonce had the baby and named her Tiara May Carter, which was false.

Before that, there was the rumor that the whole pregnancy was in fact a sham. But she revealed that to also be false with the release of a video greeting from the set of “Countdown.”

Beyonce and Jay-Z tied the knot in April 2008 after a long courtship. Beyoncé memorably revealed she was pregnant onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.

Can’t wait to get a glimpse of the bundle of joy!
