Kendrick Lamar got the hip hop world’s attention with his verse on Big Sean’s Control.

The Compton rapper anointed himself the “King of New York and King of the Coast” and then proceeded to trash some of his competition by name-checking them in his verse.

“I’m Machiavelli’s offspring / I’m the King of New York / King of the coast /  One hand I juggle them both,” Lamar raps on the song, originally intended for Big Sean’s upcoming Hall of Fame album.

“I’m  usually homeboys with the same n—-s I’m rhymin with / But this is hip-hop and  them n—-s should know what time it is / And that goes for Jermaine  Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale,  Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller,” Lamar said.

Lamar continued, “I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you n—-s / Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you n—-s / They don’t wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you n—-s,” he rhymes. “What is competition? / I’m tryna set the bar high.”

Now Drake is responding to the verse. The Canadian rapper said Lamar doesn’t pose a threat to him.

“I went about my day, went and got dinner and kept it moving,” Drake told Billboard after he heard the verse. “I didn’t really have anything to say about it,”

Drake continued, “It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That’s all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.”

Drake is putting the final touches on his own album, Nothing Was the Same, which drops Sept. 24.  The project will feature appearances from Jay Z, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz.

“There’s a lot less sort of ambient ballad moments on this album where I’m searching or longing for something,” Drake said “That sentiment is gone. Now I’m just kind of like, ‘You know, I’m 26, I don’t know what the fuck else I could be doing better than this. I feel incredible about how I’m able to support my family and friends and how supportive my family and friends have been of me.’”

Drake will kick off his North American tour with Future and Miguel on Sept. 25 in Portland, OR.
