The story of a gay waitress who was reportedly denied a tip and received a homophobic note on a restaurant receipt has come under fire for her claims.

The family that Dayna Morales served on Nov. 13 is refuting the waitress’ claims, saying they paid a tip and did not leave an anti-gay note. The family claims that it is a scam.

Morales, a Marine and server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., made headlines earlier this month when she posted an anti-gay receipt note on Facebook. In her post, she claimed a family came into the restaurant, called her by the name “Dan” and neglected to leave a tip.

Morales claimed she found a note on their bill, reading, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I don’t agree with your lifestyle & how you live your life.”

But it turns out the former Marine wasn’t discriminated on by a homophobic customer. Instead, it’s looking more and more like she lied and the entire incident is a hoax or scam.

The family who supposedly didn’t leave a tip has come forward and spoke with New York’s WNBC network. They have a receipt showing not only did they leave a tip, they left more than 20 percent of the bill. They also provided their credit card statement proving they paid the amount they claimed.

The wife claims it’s not her handwriting on the bill posted online and thinks Morales ‘doctored up our check.’ The husband called it a “disgusting thing to do,” “shameful” and “dishonorable.”

When WNBC confronted Morales, she replied: “That’s not my handwriting. I don’t know. Again, I don’t know.”

If Morales is indeed a liar, shame on her. Some people will do anything for 15 minutes of fame.
