Home Depot may need to keep a closer eye on what their employees post on its social media pages.
The company came under fire on Thursday after someone posted a picture of a white man in a monkey mask sitting between two black men. The caption asked readers: “Which drummer is not like the others?”
Many took offense to the image because African-Americans have been compared to apes and monkeys in the past.
Many Home Depot customers said they would be taking their business to its competitors because of the insensitive tweet.
Shortly after the backlash, Home Depot deleted the tweet and issued an apology. It stated, “We have zero tolerance for anything so stupid and offensive. Deeply sorry. We terminated agency and individual who posted it.”
Home Depot also tried to apologize to every person that commented about the racist tweet.
Hopefully, Home Depot will learn its lesson over this incident.
