There are some big shoes to fill at New York’s Hot 97.

Angie Martinez, who is known as ‘The Voice of New York,’ resigned from Hot 97 on Wednesday after 25 years on the air. After Martinez finished her last show, she penned a farewell letter explaining her decision.

“Today I resigned from HOT97,” Martinez wrote. “I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show ❤️ stay tuned…. Love, angie.”

Former program director turned morning DJ Ebro Darden wished Martinez well before he hinted she had a big opportunity in store.

“Angie, I love you and gave my life to protect you. This is a great opportunity to extend your brand!! Get that $$ … @angiemartinez,” Ebro tweeted. “Never be selfish, If you love them, let them leave.”

Martinez began as an intern at Hot 97 and went on to host The Angie Martinez Show. The 43-year old most recently appeared on Hot 97′s VH1 reality show This Is Hot 97 and is a correspondent for Extra.

UPDATE:

This morning, The Breakfast Club morning show with Angela Yee, DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God made the announcement that Martinez was joining their Power 105.1 family.

“Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls…an addition to our Power 105 team, ‘The Voice of New York,’ the queen of this hip hop radio ish, Legend. Icon,” DJ Envy said. “I had the pleasure of working with her before. I’ve seen this woman record her calls, do an interview, run her own board, answer the phones and still do a talk break and I was so impressed. Angie Martinez will be joining the Power 105 family. I’m super excited. Love Ang. She’s an amazing radio personality, an amazing person. A good heart. A good soul. I can’t wait for her to join the family.”

In July, Martinez will take over weekday afternoons from 2pm-6pm and she will also be heard on Miami’s 103.5 The Beat. In the press release Angie thanked the station for bringing her own and noted that it was time to “expand [her] brand.”

I want to thank, Thea Mitchem, Tom Poleman and Doc Wynter for this incredible opportunity. I’m excited to join Power 105.1 in New York and The Beat in Miami and expand my brand even further in the coming months.
