All My Children Alum Denise Vasi Lands Leading Role on VH1’s ‘Single Ladies’

Producers of VH1’s “Single Ladies” realized replacing Stacey Dash would be a big mistake.
Dash, who left the show at the end of the season to spend more time with her kids, owned her character ‘Val,’ and a replacement actress probably wouldn’t have been a fan favorite. So creators of the show did the next best thing. They created a new leading character to come aboard.
Denise Vasi has been cast as a new lead opposite co-leads LisaRaye McCoy and Charity Shea on the hourlong series, Deadline reports. The 28-year old All My Children actress will play a new role of Raquel. She’s the close friend of Keisha (McCoy) who is a savvy business woman from a prominent Southern Family on a quest to discover passion.
“Denise is the perfect addition to the Single Ladies cast,” Queen Latifah, an executive producer, told Deadline. “She is bringing a fun, new element to the show.”
Vasi completed a three-year role on All My Children before the soap was cancelled this year. She also appeared in the film “What’s Your Number.” She is an Oil of Olay model and the ex-girlfriend of New York club owner Noah Tepperberg.
“It was a rare and wonderful moment during the audition when everyone in the room immediately knew we had found our Raquel,” said VH1′s EVP original production and programming Jeff Olde said. “Denise’s beauty, style, grace and humor leap from the screen.”
Fans fell in love with the scripted series that centered around characters Val, Keisha and April. The show focused on the best friends’ love lives. Close to three million tuned in each week for the spicey sex scenes and comedy banter amongst cast members.
But despite the popularity of the show, alleged arguments between cast members caused a rift during the season. There were even rumors of an alleged fight between Dash and McCoy, Mediatakeout reported. The two argued backstage, which ended with McCoy allegedly throwing Dash around by her hair before security broke them up. Production was halted for a week.
Well, that drama is over now. The new season is scheduled to begin in January in Atlanta. The show will premier in early summer.
